The Science Library's first birthday!
On March 14th the Science Library in Vilhelm Bjerknes' hus celebrates its first birthday!
But that is not all. March 14th is also Vilhelm Bjerknes' 151st birthday and international π-day (3.14). It is also open day at UiO for secondary school students. Quite a party!

We mark the day by hosting two workshops on teaching and communication for master and PhD students, and an open lecture:
How can I make my subject fun?
Not that science is boring -- far from it -- but is it possible really to entertain others with one's subject? Get tips and inspiration from two experts in their respective fields.
- 12.00–14.00 climate researcher and particle physicist Bjørn Hallvard Samset and stand-up comedian and conjurer Johannes Lindrupsen hold a workshop. Who knows what may come out of it? It will certainly be fun! (In Norwegian)
Place: The Science Library's teaching room in Niels Henrik Abels hus. Register for the workshop here!
Infographics and beautiful statistics
We've all been there, immersed in a complicated problem or big data sets with far too many variables to keep track of. The solution may be to draw the whole thing. Infographics is all about visualising information, statistics and knowledge.
- 14.00-15.00 Stahl-Timmins will give a workshop for master and PhD students. You will be given advice on how to visualise your data sets and research questions as posters. After the workshop there will be an award for the best poster.
Place: The Science Library's teaching room in Niels Henrik Abels hus. Register for the workshop here!
- 15.15–16.00 Dr. Will Stahl-Timmins gives an open lecture on how to visualise complex information. Rector Ole Petter Ottersen will open the lecture.
Place: The foyer in Vilhelm Bjerknes' hus. Join the event on Facebook.
After working hours
After working hours we celebrate our good cooperation with the Faculty's students and staff, other friends, other guests and partners.
We host a relaxed reception in RF-kjelleren from 16.30. Simple finger-food and refreshments will be served, and you can come as you are after rigging down your stand, giving your lecture, finishing work or whatever. After the food the bar will be open all evening in RF-kjelleren, and about 18.30 the one-man band Amateur Transplants (UK) will play.
To be sure we get enough food we would like you to register for the Birthday Buffet here.
