Library Regulations

Library card

  • A library card is required in order to borrow items from the University Library. Students and staff at the University use their student/staff card. Staff at the Oslo University Hospital may get a National Library card.
  • External users must be residents in Norway. The National Library card is issued on personal attendance, on the presentation of valid identification. The National Library card basically works just like a local library card at the UiO libraries, but can be made into a National Library card by contacting a public library. A National library card issued by a public Library or a library card from another university or college in Norway, can normally be used after it is registered in the library system of the University of Oslo Library.
  • Library cards are personal and not transferable to anyone else.
  • Users are responsible for ensuring that details of address, telephone number and e-mail address are always correct. Students at the University are responsible for reporting any changes to the Student Register.
  • The loss of your library card must be reported to the library as soon as possible to prevent abuse.

  • Reference literature, special collections and journals are not normally available for loan. Some special collections are restricted to our students and staff only.
