Why reference?
Referencing is essential, since it demonstrates the integrity required in academic works.
At the university, we are expected to comply with:
- established scientific norms. Our arguments and claims must be open to testing and criticism. Correct use of sources and references are elements in ensuring this.
- formal rules. Assignments to be assessed and reasearch intended for publication should be the result of our own efforts and what we have learned. By referencing sources correctly we show what we have read and what we base our claims on.
Both researchers and students are responsible for complying with these norms and rules.
