Anne Marie Dalby Landmarks gives an overview of her dissertation "Negotiating patient involvement in treatment decision making: A conversation analytic study of Norwegian hospital encounters", as a preparation for her upcoming defense, that will take place at Akershus University Hospital, 21st of October. The talk will be in Norwegian (as the defense will be in Scandinavian Languages).

The 2016 Einar Haugen Lecture will be given by a renowned researcher in the field of bilingualism, François Grosjean. Among his many pioneering contributions is his view that bilinguals are not two monolinguals in one person but rather human communicators in their own right. In this lecture, he will discuss the bilingualism of adults and children, the importance of understanding biculturalism, and family strategies and support in the upbringing of bilingual children.

The linguistic situation in Singapore has undergone dramatic changes in its 50 years of history.  A number of linguistic issues have arisen as a result of active language planning policies, including a rapid shift in the languages used by Singaporeans to English only and the demise of the Chinese vernaculars. In the talk outlined below, Ann-Kristin Helland Gujord (University of Bergen) and Sandra L. Halverson (University College Bergen) sketch the overall framework and briefly presents some preliminary analyses from a project that is currently being developed. The aim of the project is to investigate empirically the particular multicompetence of (at this stage Norwegian-English) bilinguals and to describe its manifestation in different bilingual modes (elicited writing and translation). The bilingual data produced by advanced bilinguals will also be compared to monolingual data. This talk is internal.
