The project has officially started on the 1st of September. The first ten days of the project started with an initial ‘kickoff’ meeting on the 1st of September. Afterwards Hugo talked with various stakeholders in the project, read literature and project documentation, investigated previously developed tools and infrastructure, and attended various events occurring in the science library.

Specific activities

Meeting for course INF2260 – Interaksjonsdesign. BA students (2nd year).

  • Purpose for library: exposure, get people interested in the library, studies performed in the library, potential development of tools.
  • Purpose for students: learning about the interaction design process in a project setting. Three potential projects previously suggested to them:
    • Science fiction
    • Use of our subject headings and metadata in other contexts
    • Visualizing our electronic books and journals in the library space
  • The meeting was meant to get to know each other, for the students to get information about the potential projects and library needs. The students were mainly interested in topic 1 and 3. They will decide which topic to choose in this week. They may return to us for acquiring additional information.

A visit to the Igelu (“Ex Libris User Group”) conference (8 Sep 2016), “Developer’s Day”, Trondheim. Program: http://www.developersday.info

Summary

  • A new “beta” version of the Primo interface provides new opportunities for more streamlined (“modern”) results lists. This may be useful for the project, even though the underlying system still has many limitations. In the project we have to decide whether we will go for navigation and visualizing using Alma/Primo, using custom infrastructure or a combination thereof.
