BIBSYS
is the
library catalog and search
system. BIBSYS contains
books and journal titles, not articles.
The librarys
code is UHS.
Using BIBSYS you can order books from the
closed stacks and put yourself on a waiting list to
borrow books.
Book collections
The open
stacks are arranged in subject order
(Dewey-numbers).
The Fiction collection is on level U/-1 in open stacks with code S-Litt in BIBSYS.
Volumes from the closed stacks can
be ordered from the Circulation desk, level 1. ![]()
Borrowing
Lending period: 1 week. Please be aware that ISS transcripts will not be issued to students with unreturned library materials.
Café Georg
is in the Georg
Sverdrup building, outside the library, level 2. You are
not allowed to bring food or drink into the library.

1.
Closed Stacks: Ordering
Most of the librarys older collections is kept in closed stacks.
You can order through BIBSYS for later delivery at the circulation desk, or by
handing in BIBSYS printouts of the titles you want. Delivery time: the next day
after 2 pm. Requests on Friday will be delevered on Monday after 2 pm.
Copying
Photocopiers are available in
separate cubicles on all floors.

after logging on on PCs marked with a red dot, on all levels.
Interlibrary loans (Innlån)
International Summer
School students cannot order books from other libraries.
Journals
This year's issues are on the level 1
arranged by
subject
(Dewey)
Earlier volumes of current periodicals (later than 1980) are in
open stacks in alphabetical order on level U/-1. Volumes from 1979 and earlier
are kept in closed stacks and can be ordered at the
Circulation desk, level 1.
Laptop
computers
Internet connection for wireless laptop computers on all levels.
Library cards
are issued at the
Circulation desk on level 1. Please bring your ISS-card.
Logging on in the
Library
You are required to logon with your netID and net password in
order to access electronic resources at the University Library, such as
proprietary databases, full text journals, printers, e-mail etc. Use the PCs
with a red dot on all levels.
Newspaper
collection
Three months' back issues are available. Check
BIBSYS. The newspaper reading room is on level
1.![]()
Opening hours
Opening hours may vary during vacations and the summer.
Reference collections
Collections of reference books,
bibliographies, encyclopedias, phone books, atlas etc. are on all levels. Codes
in BIBSYS:
Renewals
Any borrowed book not reserved
by someone else may be renewed.
Reservations
You may reserve books at any Reference
desk or the Circulation desk, level 1
Searching
The library subscribes to a wide range of
databases.
You will get help with the choice, access and use at the Reference desks.
Self
service
You have to collect the material you need directly from the
open shelves. It is essential that all users of the library learn how to use
BIBSYS (also with English language texts) to find books
by themselves. The library staff will help as much as possible; however you may
have to wait when staff is busy.
