Data discovery and reuse
There are lots of data out there to discover and reuse. In this course we will introduce you to the concept of data discovery and show you the basics on how to work with secondary data.
With the amount of data being collected every day, data reuse and secondary data analyses are increasingly important. However, even though many existing datasets are easily accessible, the process of data discovery and reuse can be daunting.
In this 90-minute course we will introduce the concept of data discovery and discuss the importance and benefits of working with secondary data. We will also provide a step-by-step guide to data discovery, including finding the right data sources, setting up search queries, and accessing the data.
We will wrap up with a question and answer session where you will be able to ask us any questions you might have about data discovery and reuse!
PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and research support staff at the University of Oslo.
After the workshop, you:
- are familiar with data discovery process
- are aware of different types of data sources
- know how to set up search queries when searching for datasets
- know what to be aware of when working with secondary data
The course will take place digitally on Zoom and meeting link will be sent out to the registered participants the day before the course. The course is delivered by The University of Oslo Library and Digital Scholarship Center – as part of the Skills Development for Research Data project funded by the UiO Advisory Council for eInfrastructure.
