Description

Knowledge of how to conduct a literature search has become increasingly important for several reasons. It provides a foundation of knowledge on topics, it prevents duplication of research, helps you to identify knowledge or research gaps, and it gives you an opportunity to position your own research within the context of existing studies. 

Different kinds of literature searches serve different purposes. In this course we will address these differences and provide some tips and tricks that are useful when conducting searches.

Learning outcomes

After attending the course, you will:

  • Have knowledge of different types of literature searches and their purpose
  • Be familiar with UiO’s selection of databases for your subject field and where to find them
  • Be familiar with more advanced search techniques and how to use them
  • Be aware of how the University Library can help you with all the stages of a literature search

Working methods

Lecture with practical case examples. Duration 2 hours.
