Shut up and write!

Is it difficult to set aside time to write? The Academic Writing Centre arranges biweekly “Shut Up & Write” sessions, this fall including Yoga.

The model is simple: writing for 45 mins, followed by a 15 min break, followed again by 45 mins of writing, and so forth. By structuring time this way, you will achieve at least two things: inspiration to work when others work, and a clear conscience when taking a break.

We offer you to start the sessions with a free yoga class from 8.10 to 9.00

For students and researchers

Everyone involved in longer writing projects are welcome to participate. The sessions last from 9 am to 2 pm. Remember to enter the room during the break; that means the first 15 minutes of every hour. When the clock rings, you shut up and write!


8.10 – 9.00 yoga (bring your own yoga mat).

If you are coming directly for the writing part, please wait to enter until 9.

Start-up of writing at 9 am: Personal goals for the day (optional). Finding a place to write.

9.15 – 10.00      Writing (in silence)

10.00 – 10.15   Well-deserved break with coffee, tea, necessary errands, e-mail, facebook etc.

10.15 – 11.00   Writing again …

And so forth


«Writing» could also mean thinking or reading. The point is to vary between intensive concentration and taking breaks together. If you need to arrive or leave the room, do it during a break.


Coffee and tea will be served during the breaks.
