In the past two centuries, scientific understanding of our world has led to the development of technologies which has immensely improved the life of mankind. Some of these innovations however have also brought about new problems.
As for the field of chemistry catalysis has been an important invention, significantly contributing to better health, food supply, cleaner energy, new materials, and so on. In this year’s Hassel Lecture Prof. Matthias Beller will illustrate the principle of catalysis in several case studies such as drug development, food production, and material synthesis to highlight the pros and cons of catalytic advancements.
Further to this he will show how nanotechnology and molecular-defined systems can contribute to a wise change in technologies throughout the next decades. Finally some new ways for sufficient and sustainable supply of energy will be showcased.
