Week 17

22–28 April marks the international campaign Week17: the Libraries' sustainability week. At the University Library we are always thinking about how we can be more sustainable. This is why it is natural for us to be involved in the campaign, where we focus on the UN's 17 sustainability goals through our events and exhibitions.

The University Library has an important task in promoting both social and environmental sustainability, and has, as the first library in Norway, signed the Green Libraries Manifesto.

Program

The program is continuously updated.

  • All week: Tables with free books are set up near the information desk in the HumSam Library. New books are added every day. Please help yourself to as many books as you'd like!
  • All week: Book exhibition at the Medical Library at Ullevål Hospital.
  • 22 April: Make your own kitchen garden
    • Event at Scene HumSam in collaboration with Green Office. You will get everything you need in terms of equipment to grow your own food, in a simple, economical and not least environmentally friendly way. The Science Library's Tone Charlotte Gadmar has many years of experience with growing her own produce and will share her cultivation competence with you.
    • The event is from 14:00–15:00 and is open to everyone.
    • Tone Charlotte Gadmar will present in English if there are non-Norwegian speakers participating.
  • 23 April: Clothes swap
    • The Law Library and the Legal Climate Association invite you to a clothes swap day at Domus Juridica from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 23 April: The Mineral Library
    • Event in Norwegian at Scene HumSam in collaboration with the Sustainability Lab. Panel discussion on problematic aspects of technology and material use.
    • The event is from 12:00–13:00 and is open to everyone.
  • 24 April: BioTorsdag: Det gule mysteriet – og andre parasitter i hoppekreps
    • Event in Norwegian at Scene Realfagsbiblioteket.
    • The event is from 12:15 – 13:00 and is open to everyone.
    • Coffee and tea is served. Feel free to bring your own lunch!
  • The seed library is a collaboration with Green Office, and is available to all students and staff at UiO who wish to begin or expand on their journey as hobby gardeners – and contribute to increased biodiversity in our city.

We wish you all a sustainable Week17, and hope you will visit both events and exhibitions! Welcome!
