Learning outcomes

  • Learn what you can and cannot do at this point with your corpus in terms of text mining it.

  • Get started with the text mining of your corpus.

  • Get a plan for how to proceed with the text mining of your corpus.

Prerequisites

This workshop requires some familiarity with Python, Voyant, or DH-Lab tools, and some data cleaning experience. You may complete a course in Python, Voyant, and DH-Lab tools as a self-study here.

Target audience

This workshop is aimed at participants who can bring a preprocessed corpus (clean data) to the workshop to work with, and who seek help text mining their corpus with either Python, Voyant, or DH-Lab tools (Jupyter Notebook or apps).

Required Materials

Participants must bring their own laptop to the workshop with their preprocessed corpus (clean data) available to work with in Anaconda, Voyant, or DH-Lab. Those who plan to work with Python or Jupyter Notebooks from DH-Lab must have Anaconda installed and admin rights to their laptop in case additional installations are required.

Prior to the workshop, we will ask you to submit via Nettskjema information about the corpus you have assembled and preprocessed, and the type(s) of text mining you are considering for your corpus at this point. This will help us prepare for the workshop and determine how to best serve your needs.
