Course description

Unlock the power of video analysis with INTERACT from Mangold in this dynamic and hands-on workshop!

This workshop will introduce you to the essential features of INTERACT, such as flexible observation methods, powerful analysis tools, and a versatile coding system.
Participants will gain insight into coding video content, whether using predefined codebooks or dynamic time coding. They will learn how to efficiently organize, clean, and analyze data and use powerful visualizations like Word clouds, Box plots, San key charts, and more.

Together, we will also explore the dynamic capabilities of automatic event creation. We'll provide a sneak peek at how to gain insights through detailed timelines and finding sequences, contingencies and co-occurrences analysis. We will demonstrate methods for identifying relations in such data, which may only become visible after combining the data sets.

The seminar will facilitate a fundamental understanding of qualitative and quantitative content analysis of recorded audio/video footage.

The scientific fields covered include social sciences, education, and computer science, but the knowledge can be used for any other type of observation in any other research area.

Whether you're a researcher or educator, this workshop will empower you to exploit the full potential of INTERACT in your projects. Enhance your research skills with hands-on demonstrations and expert guidance.

Don't miss this opportunity to elevate your analytical capabilities with INTERACT!

No coding experience required—just an eagerness to discover the stories hidden within video footage.

Target audience

This course is tailored for researchers, educators, and professionals across various fields, including social sciences, education, and computer science, who are eager to master the art of video coding and analysis.

Learning outcomes

  • Define individual needs for video coding.
  • Insight on various coding and observation methods.
  • Learn whether you need to time-code videos and how to do so.
  • Extract useful information from videos beyond plain transcription.
  • Import external transcriptions or transcribe from within INTERACT
  • Combine transcripts and observations
  • Automate the classification of Events based on their transcription content.
  • Explore Code-based automation possibilities, like finding co-occurrences and contingencies.
  • Master visualizations like Word Clouds on Transcripts, Box Plots, and Sankey charts
  • Understanding the possibilities Mangold INTERACT offers to transform raw video data into meaningful insights.

Prerequisites and required materials

  • No specific prerequisites—just a passion for unveiling the insights hidden in video data.
  • Bring along your laptop! We'll provide demo versions of the software a week before the workshop to ensure you're ready to delve into video coding.
  • Optional: Watch The Mangold INTERACT Software – Overview video on YouTube to get an impression of this software tool.
  • More about Mangold INTERACT Software tool (of which UiO owns multiple licenses).

Join us in unlocking a new dimension of video analysis with INTERACT!

Lunch

  • There will be a complementary buffet-lunch at 12:00-13:00 from the Sverdrups spiseri (Georg Sverdrups Hus, 2nd floor).
  • After you get your lunch, join us at Store møterom where we have reserved seats for #DSDays25 participants.

Number of participants
