Course description
This workshop offers an introduction to various methods utilized in human research. Participants will get an overview of techniques such as eye-tracking, pupillometry, physiological measurements (respiration and heart and muscle activity), motion capture (optical and inertial), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). They will learn about the possibilities and limitations of each method and gain insights into what studies using these techniques might look like. The workshop guides participants through the experimental study pipeline, covering basic steps like study design, data collection, and data analysis.
The workshop includes live demonstrations of some portable equipment, offering first-hand experiences with these technologies. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on data processing exercises through Jupyter notebooks.
As a general introduction to human measurements, this course can be paired with more in-depth courses on eye-tracking, EEG, and physiological measurements (respiration and heart activity), available under the HumanLab umbrella.
Target audience
Master students, PhD candidates, and researchers interested in using experimental methods for human research.
