Course description

The workshop leader will present the Norwegian historical population register: objectives, methodology, status, how it may be used, challenges etc. It will be presented different ideas for how to use the register and how to contribute to the development of the register.

Project ideas:

  1. Use the present database in historical, social science or medical research (24mill. archive entities linked by October. 2025 in the open part. May include present population linked with other register data and delivered by Statistics Norway following standard privacy regulations)
  2. Improve the linking of the 70 mill. archive entities
  3. Enhance the register by adding more data (beyond 70 mill. archive entities, many possibilities.)
  4. Improve the interaction within the citizens science part of the project.
  5. Any other improvement or use of the register.

The project is described in several scientific and popular papers. Master, phd, established research-projects and new research applications further developing the register and applications of the register are welcome.
