Course description
Do you want to automate data extractions from Nettskjema submissions? Create 500 similar-but-not-identical forms in no time? Bulk download attachments? Integrate Nettskjema with your other tools? Learn how to use the Nettskjema API and unlock scalability, automation, and customizability!
In this workshop, you will learn about how the Nettskjema API can be used to customize and/or automate your data collection. We will take you through creating an API client and giving it access to your forms, and teach you how to write scripts that use the API to create forms and extract data from submissions.
Target audience
Anyone who uses questionnaires for data collection and wants to learn about custimization, automation, and scalability.
Learning outcomes
- What an API is and the basics of working with APIs
- Writing Python scripts to send data to and extract data from an API
- Reading API documentation
- Setting up an API client to use the Nettskjema API
- Hands-on experience using the Nettskjema API to create forms and extract data
Prerequisites
- Participants need to have basic programming knowledge
- The workshop will mostly use Python, but familiarity with fundamental programming concepts (variables, conditions, loops, common data types) from another language should be sufficient.
- Please install and have ready before the workshop: Python, pip, code editor or IDE of choice (e.g. VS Code or PyCharm)
Required materials
- Laptop
- Internet access
- UiO user account or user account from another institution that uses Nettskjema
Lunch
- There will be a complementary buffet-lunch at 12:00-13:00 from the Sverdrups spiseri (Georg Sverdrups Hus, 2nd floor).
- After you get your lunch, join us at Store møterom where we have reserved seats for #DSDays2027 participants.
