Learning outcomes:
After attending this course, you will be able to:
- Answer key questions about any article: What is this paper about? Is its study design sensible? Does it contain systematic biases? Does it use correct statistical analysis?
- Critically appraise primary studies, such as experimental (basic) research, randomized clinical trials, cohort-studies
- Critically assess secondary studies, such as systematic reviews and clinical guidelines
- Find literature and web-sites that can help you critically appraise scientific literature
Recommended previous knowledge: Basic knowledge and understanding of the scientific method and statistics.
Working methods
Presentations, demonstrations and practical exercises.
This is a flipped-classroom type of course. Before the course you will need to skim/read two articles that will be discussed and critically appraised at the course. You will receive all the articles by e-mail few days before the course.
The course is held in Zoom.
Target group
The topic is particularly relevant for PhD-students, master students and employees at the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Department of Pharmacy, the Department of Psychology, and the Oslo University Hospital.
