Sources and referencing

When writing an academic text it is important that you know how to cite your sources. This course teaches basic referencing techniques such as quoting a text, writing citations and reference lists, and using images.

Learning outcomes:

After attending the course you will be able to:

  • Evaluate when and how to cite sources
  • Choose a citation style that is suitable for your purpose
  • Write citations
  • Write a reference list
  • Know the difference between direct quotes and paraphrases, and other types of citations
  • Know which rules apply to using still images, including tables, charts and graphs

Please note: This course does not cover the use of reference management software. For this, please see our courses for Zotero, EndNote and BibLaTex.
