Course presentation
Target Audience
Primarily PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and research support staff at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. There are a few spots for external participants and participants from other Norwegian/Nordic universities are especially welcome to attend.
Course description
Regardless of the research field you work in, most of your results and outputs end up in digital form. To make this research visible and long-lastingly obtainable, we need it to be permanently findable and accessible. This is achieved through Persistent Identifiers (PID), unique long-lasting digital references. One example of PIDs are doi-numbers that you find assigned to research articles. But why are PIDs important? Which PIDs are best for your output? How do you set them up?
In this course we will introduce you to most widespread persistent identifiers such as DOI, ORCID, and ROR. We will discuss their importance for sustainability of open research, as well as tracking of different research assets.
We will wrap up with a question and answer session where you will be able to ask us any questions you might have about this topic.
Learning Objectives:
After the course, you will:
- know what is meant by Persistent Identifier (PID)
- understand PIDs purpose
- know which PIDs to use to improve visibility, accessibility and openness of your research
- have an overview of how to create and manage PIDs important for you
- understand how different PIDs interconnect
