Shut Up & Write!

Is it difficult to set aside time to write? The Academic Writing Centre organsises structured writing sessions for PhDs and postdocs.

Personer som sitter rundt et bord og jobber med skrivearbeid

Description

Are you writing something? Of course you are! Join Shut Up & Write, a low threshold writers community for focused writing — and get some work done!

Who can join?

PhDs and postdocs are welcome to participate for one or more sessions. No registration is required.

How does it work?

  1. We meet up at the start time (or at the top of each hour thereafter).
  2. We spend the first 15 minutes of the hour doing strictly non-writing – chatting, getting coffee, social media, etc.
  3. We spend the remaining 45 minutes of the hour strictly writing (defined broadly – reading, note-taking, thinking, etc.) without distractions or intrusions (so, none of the aforementioned non-writing).
  4. We start over at the top of the new hour – 15 minutes of strictly non-writing, followed by 45 minutes of writing.

Structure

  • 09.00
    • Shut Up & Write opens. Get some coffee and get comfortable.
  • 09.15–10.00
    • Writing
  • 10.00–10.15
    • Take a break
  • 10.15–11.00
    • Writing again ....
  • And so on. Writing sessions begin at quarter past each hour.

What if I don't want to be there the whole time?

No problem. The only rule is that you join or leave at the top of the hour and stick to the program while present.
