IIIF – the International Image Interoperability Framework – offers a comprehensive framework for a standardised description and delivery of media files and metadata over the web, with a particular focus on interoperability. It has been widely adopted by major institutions (including the National Library of Norway, a founding member of the IIIF-Consortium), is incorporated into a number of CMS packages, and is supported by mainstream image servers and viewer software.
