This keynote and panel discussion are part of the two-day Paradata Workshop, jointly organized by RITMO Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Rhythm, Time, and Motion and Digital Scholarship Centre.
About paradata
Paradata is a relatively new term that refers to how data is collected, used, reused, adapted, and shared. Unlike metadata, which describes a resource, paradata captures user activity and therefore serves as a separate layer of information. It can be seen as an important building block of open research practice by structuring information about the research process.

12:15–13:00 – Keynote Lecture
Paradata: documenting and understanding practices and processes
Speaker: Professor Isto Huvila, Uppsala University
In this keynote, Prof. Huvila introduces the concept of paradata and explores how it can help us understand the processes behind data creation and use. Drawing from the ERC-funded CAPTURE project, the talk addresses methods for capturing paradata and the challenges of making it relevant, useful, and manageable across research contexts.
