Open day at the Ethnographic Library

Are you curious about what a specialised research library looks like? Drop by and have a look. The Ethnographic Library holds over 40 000 physical books and journals on ethnography, travel writing, social anthropology, art, culture, and museum studies.

Open Day

On Wednesday 3 June we will be holding an open day from 11 to 15 for anyone who would like to visit us! This will be a great opportunity to see one of the University of Oslo Library's branches that is usually not so accessible. Look around, borrow a book, use the study spaces, or ask the librarian about anything you might be wondering about!

To get to the library, enter through the museum’s main entrance and then take the stairs up to the fourth floor. From there, follow the signs. Please note that, unfortunately, there is no lift access.

Light refreshments will be served. Welcome!

About Ethnographic Library

The Ethnographic Library is part of the University of Oslo Library, with its origins in the former Ethnographic Museum (now part of the Museum of Cultural History). The library serves as a specialised research library, with staff at the Museum of Cultural History as its core users.

Normally, there are no regular staffed opening hours, but you can book an appointment in advance. The library welcomes all enquiries from students, staff, and external visitors. Staff at the Museum of Cultural History use the library as an extended-hours library.
