About the presentation
The MSCA-funded project “From Stick to Screen: Digital Editions of Runic Inscriptions as Research Tools”, running from 2022 to 2025 at the Runic Archives, Museum of Cultural History, UiO, set out to create the technological framework allowing staff at the Runic Archives to create a born-digital, interactive and open-access edition of runic inscriptions from medieval Norway. Amongst other issues, it also addressed proper digital representation of runes based on the Unicode block Runic, while still taking into account the broad variety of visual forms in the medieval runic corpora. Based on this, the project used the accumulated data to conduct a study of variation in runic script use in Oslo, Tønsberg, Trondheim and Bergen.
