In this course we use the first 30 minutes to learn to use the basic functions in Macrobond statistical database and some other central statistics databases. The next 45 minutes we go through the essentials of the new library search engines Oria, the most common subject databases and internet archives in economics.

In this workshop we will drill literature search strategies and learn how to combine keywords that is tailored to the different needs through your Master's thesis. For example how you map earlier research on the topic you are studying and find unexplored pockets for your research question.

The introduction lecture is in two parts. In the first part you will learn about Literature search, academic integrity and UB's support services within these areas. In the second part you will be given an introduction to IT-services at UiO.

You will learn about the library services for master students. How to find your way through the jungle of information, in time for the exam.

At the master program, you will need to know how to locate relevant research material. In this course, you will learn search techniques, as well as get to know central databases and resources for your studies.

The course runs over two hours and provides an overview of the most important resources UB can provide for literature searches for social anthropologists, and how to use them.

This course gives a brief introduction to research ethics and to citing sources according to scholarly standards. The course is aimed at master students planning their Master's thesis.
