Climate, environment, and sustainability at the University Library
By creating good spaces for learning and meeting people, conscious collection management, collaborative projects and knowledge dissemination, we actively contribute to facilitating sustainable choices.
What do we do?
By offering good spaces for learning, collaboration and communication, we are an important part of UiO's green campus.
The University Library contributes to a sustainable economy and sharing culture by making collections available to our users. In addition to traditional collections of printed material, we provide access to electronic resources wherever you are, around the clock. We offer digitization services in order to contribute to the preservation and availability of scientific historical sources and collections.
Sustainability Collaboration
We are involved as partners in various sustainability collaborations. Here are some examples:
- The Sustainability Lab aims to contribute to a safe and just space for all of humanity, now and in the future, within planetary boundaries. We do that through a focus on the ecological, social, and cultural sustainability of digital artefacts and the practices that they shape.
- BærUt! is a network and competence hub for researchers, developers, and cultural heritage specialists working on creating, maintaining, researching, and archiving digital scholarly editions, regardless of language, period, discipline, or subject.
- Cooperation with the Green Office
- The Library of Things is a collection of tools, hiking equipment and sports equipment. Things you need occasionally, but not often enough to buy it yourself. So instead of each person buying their own, many people can now share the tools and equipment in the Library of Things.
- With the Seed Library, we aim to lower the threshold for trying out urban gardening, thereby contributing to more students and staff learning about seeds, plants, and biodiversity.
- The Libraries' Sustainability Week takes place each year in week 17.
