Week 17

20–26 April marks the international campaign Week17. At the University Library we are always thinking about how we can be more sustainable. This is why it is natural for us to be involved in the campaign, where we focus on the UN's 17 sustainability goals through our events and exhibitions.

The University Library has an important task in promoting both social and environmental sustainability, and has, as the first library in Norway, signed the Green Libraries Manifesto.

Program

All week:

  • Tables with free books are set up near the information desk in the HumSam Library. New books are added every day. Come and help yourself!
  • The seed library is a collaboration with Green Office, and is available to all students and staff at UiO who want to try their hand at hobby gardening and help increase biodiversity in our city.
  • Sustainability Week at UiO: Given with Love
    • Monday–Friday there will be an exclusive reuse pop-up in the Science Library. Here you’ll find perfectly usable second-hand items that deserve a new home. Drop by, make a great find – and help reduce waste and increase reuse.

Monday 20 April:

  • Make your own kitchen garden
    • Workshop at Scene HumSam in collaboration with Green office.
    • Dreaming of growing your own food – in a simple, affordable and environmentally friendly way? At this workshop, you’ll get all the equipment you need to get started. The University Library’s most experienced hobby gardener, Tone Charlotte Gadmar, will share insights from her many years of vegetable growing.
    • The event runs from 14:15 to 15:15, and is open to everyone – regardless of prior knowledge.

Tuesday 21 April:

  • Clothes Swap in Georg Sverdrups hus
    • The HumSam Library, Green office and SiO invite you to a clothing swap day in the foyer of Georg Sverdrups hus on Tuesday 21 April from 10:00 to 15:00.
    • Clothes can be handed in in advance at the HumSam Library information desk from 7 April to 17 April. For the clothes you hand in, you will receive up to 10 vouchers, which you can use on the clothing swap day.

Wednesday 22 April:

  • Clothes Swap at Domus Juridica
    • The Law Library and the Legal Climate Association invite you to a clothing swap day at Domus Juridica from 11:00 to 13:00.
    • Clothes can be handed in in advance at the Law Library from 6 April to 22 April (until 09:00). For the clothes you hand in, you will receive up to 7 vouchers, which you can use on the clothing swap day.
  • Make your own zine
    • Workshop at Scene HumSam in collaboration with Green office.
    • Join a creative workshop where you make small, self-made booklets (zines) out of paper. Perline Demange, postdoctoral fellow in psychology, and Green office will show you how you can use text, drawing, collage or photography to express ideas, feelings or topics you care about.
    • The event starts at 14:15. After that, you can continue working on your project with us until 16:00.
    • Everyone is welcome – regardless of prior knowledge.

Thursday 23 April:

  • Rett til kaffen at the Law Library
    • Rett til kaffen offers students an informal and inspiring introduction to the faculty’s research – presented by the researchers themselves.
    • This week you can meet Giulia Petrachi, who will share valuable insights from her ongoing research. She will, among other things, talk about what recent research reveals about legislation, sustainability, and the prevention of food waste.
    • The event takes place from 12:15 to 13:00 and will be held in English.
