DataverseNO

DataverseNO is a general-purpose data archive for open research data from Norwegian research institutions.

UiO is a partner in DataverseNO and has its own collection. Datasets uploaded by UiO researchers are curated by the UiO Library before they are made available.

Which datasets can be archived in DataverseNO?

Only data that can be openly accessible without the need for any restrictions can be archived in DataverseNO. At UiO this is referred to as green data, see description of data classification and storage on our research data pages.

What to prepare before depositing?

It is necessary to read and follow the deposit guide before uploading a dataset. The guide contains information on how to prepare your dataset before uploading. This includes recommendations for readme files, metadata, file formats, naming conventions, and more. We require that datasets are prepared according to the deposit guide prior to archiving. The deposit guide is on DataverseNO's website.

Where to upload?

Go to: dataverse.no/dataverse/uio

What happens after uploading?

The dataset will have a DOI reserved upon uploading, however, this will not be active until the dataset has been approved by the curator.

After uploading, you will receive a confirmation that your data set has been registered. Within a few days, you will receive an email from a curator at the UiO Library. The curator will then check if your dataset meets the guidelines of DataverseNO, and you will be sent a curation report with recommendations for improvements. It is common that changes to metadata, readme, and other aspects of the dataset must be made to ensure that the dataset adheres to the DataverseNO policy.

The curator assists in quality checking descriptions, documentation, metadata and formats so that the data can be available in the long-term and thereby also fulfills the FAIR principles. Curation does not involve peer review of the dataset's content.

If you need to give collaborators access to datasets before they are made openly available, the curator can help with that. If the dataset is to be included in peer review, arrangements can be made for this in DataverseNO.

What happens after curation?

You will be notified when the dataset is made available in UiO's collection in DataverseNO. The dataset will now have a permanent id and permanent link for citation. It is possible to upload new versions of the dataset, these will go through the same curation process.
