Methodological literature, guidelines and software

This page provides information on various types of knowledge summaries, protocols, pre-registration, PRISMA, Covidence, and how to access full-text articles.

Different types of evidence synthesis

Information about systematic reviews can be found at PhD On Track - Types of reviews. There are chapters on different types of systematic reviews, reporting standards (PRISMA) and literature searches. There are also many useful links to articles and methodological manuals on systematic reviews.

PRISMA

PRISMA is the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses.

Protocol and pre-registration

Anyone who is going to create a systematic knowledge summary should start with a protocol or project plan with clear descriptions of what will be done and how.

Covidence

As a student or employee at UiO or OUS, you have free access to Covidence, a web-based tool for reviewing large amounts of literature (screening articles).

Access full text of articles

Through the University Library you have access to a large collection of journals. You can access the full text of an article in several ways:

  • Covidence adds full text of openly available articles
  • EndNote can be used to retrieve full text. You can find an overview of the procedure under "Add full text" on our EndNote help pages.
  • In Oria you can find the full text by searching for the article by title.
  • Articles you cannot find using these methods can be ordered in Oria (requires login in Oria)
  • You can also search for full text online.

If you cannot find the articles using these methods, you can order them in Oria (login with Feide required).

Articles with linked full text in EndNote can be uploaded simultaneously to Covidence. See the guide "How to use EndNote to bulk upload full texts" for more information.
