No new Wiley agreement for 2026

Sikt has negotiated a one-year read-and-publish agreement with the publisher Wiley for 2026. University of Oslo (UiO) is not part of this agreement.

Together with the other universities in the BOTT collaboration (UiB, NTNU and UiT), UiO has chosen not to sign a new agreement.

UiO considers the agreement to still be overpriced and too expensive compared with similar agreements other consortia have with Wiley. The cost burden for UiO in this agreement is high, and the current media budget does not allow for entering into the agreement.

How to publish

What does it mean for researchers that we no longer have an agreement with Wiley? The recommendation is still that if researchers want to publish in one of Wiley’s hybrid journals, this can be done closed (behind a paywall). The accepted manuscript version (AAM) will be covered by UiO’s rights retention policy when uploaded to and made available in The Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA).

The costs of publishing in Wiley’s fully open access journals (gold) must be covered by the individual researcher/unit.

More information is available on the web page “Open Access agreements”.

Access to articles

Through archival rights, UiO and Oslo University Hospital (OUS) will still have access to most of Wiley’s journal articles published up to and including December 2024. If you want to read articles from 2025 and 2026, you can find instructions on the University Library’s web page on how to find electronic articles.
