Endnote for Oslo University Hospital (OUS)

OUS has transitioned to M365 and OneDrive, and this has some implications for Endnote users.

EndNote files (both library files and Word documents) can be corrupted by being stored in OneDrive, and we recommend that such files be kept locally on the computer. If you need access to the library on multiple computers you can create an EndNote Online library. If you want to use OneDrive there are some steps you can take to prevent possible problems.

Have one EndNote library

We recommend having one main library and organizing references into groups, as this is the most user-friendly.

If you have your references in multiple libraries it is easy to move references from one library to another; you only need to open both at the same time and drag the references from one library to the other.

Back up your library

See how to create a backup here:

You can save the backup file wherever you want, but when you want to use it you must move it to where you have the other EndNote files.
When you make changes to the library you need to create a new backup.

Create an EndNote Online account

EndNote has its own cloud storage feature that lets you save a version of your library online.

This is updated every time you make a change to the library, and allows you to work with the same library on multiple computers. You can also use it to share references and collaborate with others, and you can create a new version of your library file if it becomes corrupted.

More about EndNote Online and how to set it up can be found here:

Store all EndNote files in one folder

For the best overview we recommend storing EndNote files in a dedicated folder. This folder should be stored locally on the computer, and the C: area can be used.

Your EndNote library consists of two files, the library file (My Endnote Library.enl) and the data folder (My Endnote Library.Data), and they must be in the same location and have the same name in order to work.

If you want this folder in OneDrive you can right-click it and select "Always keep on this device". You should do this with all OneDrive folders that contain EndNote files, including Word documents with EndNote references.

You only need to do this once per computer you use.

I can't find the P: drive

The P: drive is still available, but it is hidden, so to open it type P: in the address bar in File Explorer.

Word does not work

A recent change was made that means not all programs are accessible on the regular desktop, so to be able to work as usual you must use Arbeidsflate RCP.
