Unlimited open publishing in most journals and conference proceedings. Those not owned by ACM (eg IEEE) are not part of the agreement (but can be read).

How does it work?

1. Select ‘Open Access’ when submitting your article via Editorial Manager.
2. Select ‘Apply Discount’, fill out your affiliation details, and benefit from a 100% discount on the APC.
3. Once accepted, your article will appear in Open Access automatically and can be read and downloaded by anyone, anywhere.

• Applies to the publication of peer-reviewed research articles in both subscription journals (hybrid) and pure open access journals.
• Overview of the journals included in the agreement (.xlsx). The agreement has unlimited publishing (no quota).
• Article types included in the agreement: research articles, reviews, rapid communications, brief reports, case reports.
• A few society journals are not included in the agreement.

  • The pure open access journals are listed on the Full OA + CP Gold + Lancet Gold tab.
  • The hybrid journals are on the Core hybrid + CP hybrid tab. You can also use Elsevier's online tool Find a participating journal (only hybrid journals).
• Some titles owned by academic societies are not part of the agreement with Elsevier. The Lancet hybrid journals are not included. Please check the list of included journals whether your journal is listed or not.

These article types are included in the agreement: Case reports, Data in Briefs, Full-length articles, Micro-articles, Original software publication, Practice guidelines, Protocols, Review articles, Replication studies, Short communications, Short surveys, Video articles.

UiO-authors: only select University of Oslo (not your department) from the drop-down menu "Select organization from list", otherwise your UiO affiliation may not be recognized. OUS-authors: select Oslo Universitetssykehus (Oslo University Hospital) from the list.

• The APC cost is covered in its entirety by UiO. This applies to both hybrid and pure Open Access-journals. Open publishing does not entail extra costs for the researcher / research group. (APC=article processing charge).
• Expenses beyond APC, such as extra pages, colour illustrations and copy editing, must be covered by the author/department.

Only article types in the A- and B-category are included in the agreement.

• A-category: Clinical Trial, Hypothesis & Theory, Methods, Original Research, Policy and Practice Reviews, Review, Systematic Review, Study Protocol, Technology and Code, Registered Report.
• B-category: Brief Research Report, Case Report, Community Case Study, Conceptual Analysis, Curriculum Instruction and Pedagogy, Mini Review, Perspective, Policy Brief.

To submit your article under this agreement, please select ‘University of Oslo’ as the payer in the invoice section when submitting your article.

You also have to give an alternative billing address. As alternative billing address, use your department's address.

2026.

This agreement applies to submissions received during 2026.

The corresponding author must be affiliated with UiO (OUS is not part of this agreement). Corresponding author refers to the author who is responsible for submission of the article to the journal. Thus, it is not sufficient to be listed as the corresponding author in the article. Some disciplines use the term first author instead of corresponding author. 

The eligible author must be the corresponding author and submit using their institutional affiliation and matching email address.

The open access publishing fee (APC/BPC) is fully covered by UiO under the agreement and therefore entails no direct cost to the researcher or research group. 

Costs beyond the APC/BPC, such as extra pages, color illustrations, and language editing, must be covered by the author/department.

The agreement includes unlimited publishing in the publisher's hybrid and pure open access journals.

The agreement with IoP also includes journals from Electrochemical Society (ECS):

• Journal of the Electrochemical Society (JES)
• ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology (JSS)
• ECS Transactions (ECST)

• Gold open access journals: these journals are not included in the agreement. Articles in gold journals will get a 15 % discount on APC. The rest of the amount must be covered by the author. See list for included gold open access journals (.xlsx)
• These article types are included: "research articles, review articles, brief reports, and case reports."

The APC cost for publishing in hybrid journals is covered in its entirety by UiO. Open access publishing in these journals does not entail extra costs for the researcher or research group. (APC = article processing charge).

Expenses beyond APC, such as extra pages, colour illustrations and copy editing, must be covered by the author/department.

The journals in Nature Research / Nature Portfolio are not included in the agreement.
